When Facebook announcement their acquisition of Oculus, a small group of individuals at Discovery began discussing how to best utilize VR for our business. Using in-house resources, we built a digital publishing system to distribute 360 video and view it in native apps and on the web. With little existing products on the market, my team explored UX models through rapid prototyping. The platform created new ad revenue opportunities for Discovery and positioned the company as an innovative leader in the booming VR storytelling industry.
I worked with my team to design the experience and prototype different interaction models to optimize the best experience for users. I oversaw the creation of the apps and the site from inception and continued well after August 2015 launch. We continued to support content publishing until handing over the platform to a new team in the company in November 2017. In addition to the apps and site, I also provided design direction for our app on Oculus and Gear VR. As we produced 360 video content to live on the platform, I also provided guidance regarding typographic design and narrative storytelling.
